If we’re gonna overturn Roe, let’s be fair about it
First, full disclosure: I’m a white man in my 60’s. I’m fat. I’m married. I used to be a Republican until nutty Christians took over the Republican party with their anti-choice bullshit, so now I’m a registered Democrat. I have daughters. I have granddaughters. I have a male dog, but he’s neutered. The only vagina and uterus in my house belongs to my wife and I’m perfectly confident in her ability to deal with it.
As I said, nutty Christians drove me out of the Republican party decades ago. I’ve been voting for Democrats, but that’s been about the level of my political involvement. Yes, I admit it. Being a white male has allowed me to sit too comfortably on the sidelines and I regret that being the extent of my effort.
But now, after the leak of the draft opinion of SCOTUS (by a Goddamn American Hero, in my opinion) I’m just white-hot angry about it.
I have no legal background and am not in a position to comment one way or the other.
But! I do have an idea that strikes me as fair. And this isn’t satire or a joke. I’m dead serious. So let’s lay it out:
Some dude knocks up a woman. She gets pregnant. She tells him. He’s pissed.
Now he’s all bummed out and depressed. He doesn’t want to be a dad. He doesn’t want to marry a one-night stand. He doesn’t want to pay for this.
Dang. No more abortions. Now what?
Well, hey pal: It’s not just her fault — it was your dick that got her pregnant. You “fired the gun”.
So how about this: If we as a country think it’s fine to force life choices on the woman, why don’t we force any consequences on the man? Oh, you’re gonna say, we usually make him pay Child Support. Yeah, lot’s of guys don’t or they make her work really hard to collect it. Fuck that.
My suggestion: Forced Labor Camps.
Mr. Can’t Wear A Condom gets hauled off and put into a place where he’s put to work and every dime he earns goes to pay his expenses, pay for the mother and the child’s living expenses, medical care, all of it. If he has a job and can work remotely, great! If he’s some uneducated, clueless moron, he participates in risky drug trials. Or works on a chain gang. She’s lost her freedom, why shouldn’t he lose his? No vacations. No amenities. The length of his sentence? Until that kid he created finishes college or trade school, whatever the kid eventually chooses. Then dumb dick dad can leave the labor camp. I’d say we neuter him, too, although that might be extreme. I don’t think so but I respect your difference of opinion.
And what about marriage? Well, OK, fine, but it has to be acceptable to her. I’m not willing to force some prick into a marriage he doesn’t want only to beat her or cheat on her. Beat or Cheat? Off to the Camp!
If you think this is unreasonable, maybe you should ask yourself why you have that unbalanced perspective. I’m gonna leave the comments on and unedited because I’m genuinely curious. Just one thing you need to understand: Leave any comment that includes a scripture passage justifying your opinion and I’ll respond with an F-Bomb and block you. Because, the Bible isn’t an unbiased, authoritative source for anything.
